Great Big Green Week and Eco Fair 2021

The Great Big Green Week 18th -26th September 2021

One of the biggest UK-wide collaborations of climate action events.

It was a celebration of all that is being done to address the climate emergency and to raise awareness and further engagement in the run up to the UN's climate change conference (COP26) starting in Glasgow 31st Oct 2021

Climate Action Frodsham took part in this event by showcasing:

  • How our local restaurants source their products and consider the environmental impacts of their food

  • Food choices and impact

  • EV (Electric Vehicles) myths busted - and how to switch: Elaine, a member of our committee

  • GIKI: Get Informed, Know your Impact - Helen Tandy of Chester & District Friends of the Earth and Eco-Communities will introduce this online tool:

    • "Your step by step guide to a lighter footprint on the planet"

    • Free personal guide to calculate, track and reduce your environmental footprint. Science based carbon calculator and over 130 steps to help you cut carbon.

  • Our new bus service, and Chris's Bus Out Walk Home resource identifying local walks that take advantage of public transport to get you home again

  • Voices - our project run by Ruth to share petitions and campaigns to contact our representatives

Eco Fair Saturday 25th September 2021

The fair, hosted by Frodsham Methodist Church was a great day, lots of opportunity to chat to people about our group and what we are doing.

Our stall focussed on our aims and projects

  • Raising awareness of the urgency

    • Giving away copies of our new leaflet

    • Displaying the climate stripes (as above) and on our face masks which gives a stark representation of the changing average global temperature over the last 2 centuries.

    • Sharing how we have been engaging with local schools, groups and businesses for the GBGW

  • School Solar - Committee members are working with the community energy organisation Chester Community Energy to seek funding for a viable business case for this in Frodsham

  • More Renewables - we are in discussions with owners of various businesses locally seeking suitable roofs for community owned renewable energy installations - do you know of any?

  • Library of Things - Committee members are in consultation with Council partners seeking suitable premises for storage and loaning of a collection of items we hope to obtain. We will need donations for this in due course.

  • Voices - a separate communications channel for sharing petitions and campaigns for those wishing to add their voice.

    • Including particularly the Great Big Green Week's Declaration, telling the Prime Minister the "Time Is Now" to lead the UK towards a healthier, greener, fairer future. Ahead of hosting the United Nations climate summit in Glasgow in 2021
