Apple Pressing

Apple Press Hire

Cheshire is blessed with many apple trees, in both private gardens and community orchards.

Climate Action Frodsham supply an apple press kit to individuals, schools and community groups to transform their extra apples into tasty juice (and cider for those over 18!).

All equipment is manually operated, and safe to use with children under supervision.

Although our press will always be free to anyone who would like to use it, we are a small not-for-profit organisation who rely on donations to cover our operating costs. If you would like to make a donation for using our press, then please head to our donation page to help us out

Please note: In order that our apple press bookings do not generate excessive motor vehicle travel to both collect and return the apple pressing equipment, we are restricting the locations where our equipment is loaned out to within 6.5 miles (10 Km) of Frodsham.

Booking the press

You can book the press online via the button to the left, or via this link.

Choose your date, check that the press is available and fill in your details on the online booking form. You will normally receive a confirmation within a day of your booking.

You will need to collect the press and equipment from an address in Helsby.

All equipment will easily fit in an average sized car boot

What's included

The kit includes:

  • An 18L manually operated apple press with filter bag

  • A 7L manually operated scratter to pulp the apples

You'll need:

  • A sturdy work surface with chopping board and knife to cut apples

  • A stand for the scratter - will need a gap to let the pulp through (a workmate is perfect for this)

  • Measuring jugs and bottles for collecting juice - the spout on the press is only about 5 inches (13cm) off the floor, so short/wide jugs work best

  • Buckets for the pulp (compost this if you can!)

  • Hose pipe for washing the equipment

  • One or two people to lift the press

  • Suitable transport
